Shared Upside
We put this into practice through a strong, fair incentive program and stock options. In our first and second years we allocated 10% of total revenue to the employee incentive pool, and today we run the pool at 20% of profit. Incentives are fully differentiated by individual performance and contribution — many members consistently earn several times their annual salary every year. Because the pool grows with company performance rather than being a fixed amount competed over, a colleague's success ultimately grows everyone's reward. The result is a culture of partnership rather than excessive competition: we collaborate to create results together and share them fairly by contribution.
